Welcome to Snowdrifter Country!

So, you’re cruising along on your snowmobile, enjoying the ride and scenery on a brisk winter’s day. The trail is groomed, there’s plenty of snow and things are looking good. Well, where are you? It’s quite possible that you’re riding the snowmobile trails provided by the Marcell Snowdrifters Snowmobile Club.

The club maintains 105 miles of trail in northern Itasca County. The communities of Marcell, Talmoon, Bigfork and Effie are all connected by the snowmobile trail. Additionally, there are connections to the northwest to reach the Blue Ox Trail that runs between Bemidji and International Falls,
connections to the east to reach the State Taconite Trail that runs between Grand Rapids and Ely, connections to the south that connect to the Suomi Trail which will take you through the Chippewa National Forest and connections to the west that will take you to Northome, Blackduck and Lake
Winnebigoshish. Throughout the Snowdrifters trails there is great scenery with tall majestic pines, vistas of frozen lakes and the occasional wildlife. The trail offers something for everyone.

All trails closed
It was a short season. We didn't get rideable snow until the middle of February and it melted away three weeks later. The trails are now closed and it's time to start thinking about trail maintenance to get things ready for next year when we will, hopefully, have good snow. Have a great summer!

The recent warm weather melted the snow we had but we are getting more heavy, wet snow today so the riding season is not over yet.

Since the last trails report on Feb. 8, we have had about 6 inches of snow and there is now enough snow for the groomers to operate. All the trails are groomed and are riding conditions are excellent.

We are still waiting for groomable snow. There is enough snow on the trails to ride on but not enough to groom. Trail conditions are fair to poor.

The groomers were out recently to pack the little snow we have. There isn't enough snow to cut and fill with so the trail surface will mimic the terrain beneath. Thus, trail conditions are considered fair.
